Can you give a short example (10-15 chars) of a broken Unicode text (UTF-8)? I need it for a unit test, to check that my parser throws a correct exception.

ps. Thanks for your downvotes. As wikipedia explains, there is a list of invalid UTF-8 byte sequences. Thus, a good example of a broken Unicode text is: 0xC0 0xC0. Java converts such a byte array into \uFFFD\uFFFD, which means that both characters are replaced by a replacement character.

If you just wrote a decoder you should be able to produce some text that will test the various conditions. –  bames53 Nov 5 '12 at 22:14

You can do 'fuzz' testing. Generate a bunch of random data and see how your code handles it. I recently did this on some text processing code and it found a few significant bugs in unexpected places.

@yegor256 If there's any incorrect data then this method should eventually produce it. Anyway you also want to ensure that you handle data that is 'correct' but perhaps unexpected. –  bames53 Nov 5 '12 at 22:25
