# How to calculate dx and dy in sobel edge detection in 5X5 matrix?

I am bit confused how to calculate dx and dy in sobel edge detection method .... I googled it and i found that.......

this is for 3X3 Matrix .........I want to implement 5X5 Matrix.......... Actually I want slop of tangent line to selected point. . . . tangent= Atan2(dx,dy). Using 3X3 matrix i am getting correct tangent but it not more accurate tangent. I am interested in calculation of dx and dy for 5X5 matrix. I don't want to detect edge, i want to detect tangent that is Atan2(dx,dy)........ Please help me....

Sobel 5x5 matrix core used in Intel Performance Primitives (IPP) for vertical direction (rotate for horizontal direction):

And notice Atan2 function argument order: Atan2(y, x)

I know that matrix ..... suppose double theta = atan2(y,x); then the angel of tangent will be equal to theta or 90-theta? @MBo –  govinda Nov 6 '12 at 12:28
Atan2 gives us angle of gradient vector. If you mean tangent to contour line (isoline) - yes, it is perpendicular to gradient, 90-theta –  MBo Nov 6 '12 at 12:35
