I try to make a tree list in PHP from a hierarchy stored in a concatenated string in my mysql database

This my table :

and I'd like to reproduce something like this :

  <li>
    <ul>
      <li></li>
      <li>
          <ul>
              <li></li>
              <li></li>
           </ul>
      </li>
      <li></li>
    </ul>
  </li>
  <li></li>

</ul>

I know I have to use a recursive function I don't reach to do...

Maybe someone could help me

You are using an "absolute hierarchy path" in your table. Why don't you use only a column with the parent inside? –  Sentencio Nov 9 '12 at 7:09

        $thisref = &$refs->{$name};
        foreach($result as $k => $v)

This will give you a nice object with every node's child in the property children.

@Salketer your answer seems to be missing important parts, $id and $refs are never set... did you forget to paste the surrounding function? –  Pebbl Nov 8 '12 at 18:08

@Salketer ah cool, no worries - not to nag but there are a few more changes required before this will actually work 100%. if($li->children)drawUl($i->children); should be if(isset($li->children))drawUl($li->children); this avoids 'children' not set errors and repairs the $i instead of $li typo. Also there isn't a stdObject() (at least not that I know of, unless it's new?) it should be new stdClass() or as I prefer (object) null;... other than those typos though it works nicely (I can't bring myself to +1 until they are fixed) ;) –  Pebbl Nov 9 '12 at 9:46
