I've been searching the web for a few day's (actually nights ;), but at the moment I'm very stuck in finding a solution for my problem. Basically what I want is a listview of SQLite, with filter and the important thing: keeping the list-row result consistent with the SQLite row's.

I've started easy with a basic listview, but it wasn't possible to keep consistency between the SQLite row's and the filtered listview. Then I moved on to a simplecursor, but I never get a filtered result, only the complete SQLite list is being showed.

I think I'm missing something in the direction of telling the SimpleCursorAdapter to refresh with the filtering. I've found a lot of pages with some pieces of code, but can't seem to implement it in my own code. It has to do with: setFilterQueryProvider ( I think) Also I've read this SimpleCursorAdapter is now obsolete and moves to loaders? Let me get this one step at a time, so hopefully with a bit of help I can get this filtering to work an move on to loaders.

Couple of things that would help you

  1. Loader ( or one from support) to resolve the consistency issues
  2. A full implementation of Custom Adapter - rather than a pre packaged one - for managing and keeping up with the updates that are happening with the EditText

Now, couple of things that you would have to amend to your existing code.

  1. Maintain an old instance of the data that is Loaded from dataBase - you would always need to use it to checkback - Collection1
  2. Maintain a similar collection which is shown to UI through the Custom Adapter - Collection2
  3. When text in the EditText changes - (A) remove the entries of Collection2 and recreate it using the new filter (b) create a new instance of the Adapter with the latest collection2 (c) set this new instance to the listView (d) recycle the old instance for optimization

This, way your updates will be instantaneous to the user, while you would have the full control in resolving your current issues as well as any that might come.

I'm having filtering results now. I can't place every thing back from your point of view, but I'm hoping that I'm doing the right kind of magic on the data. Next thing I have to find out is the onclick on the listview. This is crashing my app now. –  Gaston Nov 11 '12 at 19:07
    
I had a stupid code in my onclick, which was the cause for a crash. I removed the error and now it's working! Updated the code above –  Gaston Nov 11 '12 at 21:10

I have created my own method for filter text:

That will be used in SearchView like:
