When running this code, the game never declares a winner or a tie, it continuously asks for the next players move...

Example output:

Choose a position to play
1 | 2 | 3
---------
4 | 5 | 6
---------
7 | 8 | 9
Player X (Enter a position or -1 to resign): 1

Choose a position to play.
1 | 2 | 3
---------
4 | 5 | 6
---------
7 | 8 | 9
Player O (Enter a position or -1 to resign): 1

It doesn't change the number of the space to the character or even remember it to even declare a winner.

This is the runStandardGame() part of my code, I think the problem my lie in there?

Or even possibly just the play part, because that is where the assigning to the array is...

You show neither the isWin() nor isTie() method. I'd guess that neither one ever returns true, so gameOver is never set; hence, you keep looping. –  duffymo Nov 21 '12 at 0:31
    
Are you definitely calling the play method? I don't see where that's happening. –  combinatorics Nov 21 '12 at 0:34
    
The isWin() and isTie methods are correct, I just didn't understand why they weren't being called upon, but, I never was calling play()...When I did, it worked! Thanks!!! :) –  ADeck33 Nov 21 '12 at 0:49

I see you are getting user input with

position = keyboard.nextInt();

but I don't see you actually using it with a call to

play(position, playerChar);

It seems to me that in

position = keyboard.nextInt();

Something needs to be done with position (write it to the board) before you display and continue?
