I am implementing the custom list view but problem is that getview method is called multiple times i.e if there are 4 items in list view then getview method is called 4 times for each list item

that is how it is supposed to work. getView populates each item of the list view. Get a View that displays the data at the specified position in the data set –  Atrix1987 Nov 26 '12 at 5:37
    
It is being called once for each item not repopulating the whole list again and again if thats what you are concerned about. Also it will be called once for every new item that becomes visible on screen, it does not populate the items which are not supposed to be visible immediately. –  redsnowfox Nov 26 '12 at 5:57

Custom ListView is supposed to work this way.
getView get called any times a new row is displayed.
