I am making a database using a data handler class that extends SQL Lite open helper. I copied a example but this example only had three columns ID, name and skill. I am wanting to add three more columns Strength, Loyalty and Weapon. The code works with the three columns but as soon as I add in three more it doesn't work and says it cannot find the new columns when creating the database. The code I am using is the following..

I just can't figure out when it doesn't like the other columns I am trying to insert.

I also had a card class that looks like the following.

At the moment I am just testing the database works by writing it to the log in my browse class. The code I am using here is.

Does anyone know why it won't add the other columns? Thanks for any help given.

I have tried unistalling/ reinstalling the app and I have also tried clearing the data for the app but neither work.

so next ... change super(context, DATABASE_NAME, null, 1); to super(context, DATABASE_NAME, null, 2); ... and increment last parameter (1, 2, 3, ...) every time you change database schema ... or delete app from device and install it again ... since without changeing this param (DATE base version) onCreate is not called again –  Selvin Nov 30 '12 at 13:43

It looks as if you've missed out commas between the various column names. It should be

Hope this helps.

UPDATE It's also because you haven't placed a space in between your column name variable and the column type, you would need to put a space before the word TEXT as in my amended code above.

this is the exact root of the problem...you must perform a clean installation, because your database is corrupted now because you have already ran it with the wrong database creation script. –  Alécio Nov 30 '12 at 15:18
    
As has been mentioned, the oncreate will only once after the program has been installed, to make the onCreate method run again you would either need to uninstall the app from the device or clear the app data within the device settings by going to app drawer > settings > your app name > clear data –  Boardy Nov 30 '12 at 16:27

if i understood correctly, seems that you forgot to implement the onUpgrade() method doing an alter table on the database to add the new columns...or if you haven't released the app yet, you can just do a clear data and try again without implementing the onUpgrade()...because your database was already created with the old columns set, and it won't create a new one until you update the database version number (which will trigger the onUpgrade()) method call.

you can either go to Settings/Applications/App.. and press clear data ...or simple uninstall and try it again. Note: the onUpgrade() method is only necessary if you have already released outside...so people take already have it installed can perform the update gracefully, but if the app never left your computer, just uninstall or clear data..it's easier than writing and handling the onUpgrade() scenarios. –  Alécio Nov 30 '12 at 15:16
