I am using Tomcat 7 to deploy my war file. So had to use mojo tomcat-maven-plugin. My Http port set in tomcat is 8090, and my server name is localhost.

Maven could not deploy my app as it is giving the following error :

I did all the alterations in the following places before execution of the program.

I tried out the same example changing the settings.xml of maven to this:

   <server>
       <id>TomcatServer</id>
       <username>admin</username>
       <password>admin</password>
   </server>

which is the manager id and password, which still gives me the same error. Error 403 means Access is Denied. How to solve this problem ?

The user you use for deployment must have the manager-script role. The username must match what you are using in settings.xml.

And the URI in the plugin should be /manager/text

Note: admin-gui + admin-script roles are for the host-manager UI and REST interface, manager-gui + manager-script roles are for the deployment UI and REST interface.

i changed my settings.xml, tomcat-user.xml and pom.xml as you instructed... I am getting a different Error: [ERROR] Failed to execute goal org.codehaus.mojo:tomcat-maven-plugin:1.1:deploy (default-cli) on project 01JsfExample: Cannot invoke Tomcat manager: Connection refused: connect -> [Help 1] –  bali208 Dec 11 '12 at 3:44

That error means your server isn't running, your proxy settings are wrong, or the host:port of your URL is incorrect. Load localhost:8890/manager/html in your browser to verify. –  mikeslattery Dec 11 '12 at 3:52
