I have tried to send push notifications to my apps multiple times, but with no avail. I have followed many tutorials and followed all the steps. I am getting successful messages from the APNS server, yet no message ever arrives to the device. I have tested sending using the development certificate which arrived successfully, and I have generated the appropriate production certificates and am using them in the php script. I will post my code below. Please let me know if you see something I am doing wrong. I just don't know what it is...

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

UPDATE:

Ok, so after deleting all the Mobile Provisioning profiles, all certificates, all .pem files, everything, and re-generating all certs, keys, permissions, and profiles for both development and production my problem still remains...

Sent message to debug version on device using the sandbox gateway, successful. Sent message to release version on Ad Hoc version on test device using main apple gateway, unsuccessful....

Any ideas?

I receive no error messages from the APNS service, everything successful. No build errors. Brand new up-to-date certificates...


UPDATE:

I found this article from Apple Technical support here and followed all the steps and checked everything. As far as I can tell everything checks out. My production build does contain the aps_environment of Production as it should.

Also I found this method for generating the .pem files, which was a little different then my previous attempts, so I tried this, and it still doesn't work. My code is still the same as above as the problem seems to be elsewhere, but if anyone sees something when scanning through PLEASE let me know. I just want this to work.

I would happily put a bounty on this question, but I don't have anywhere near enough reputation for it, and I have been trying to gain some by helping others with their questions.


UPDATE:

While searching I found another document by Apple here that has a line in it that states "Take note that the device token in the production environment and the device token in the development (sandbox) environment are not the same value." So I suppose another question would be.

Is the deviceToken different for development and production modes?

I know this is getting long but I am trying to show what steps I have taken to try to self solve this problem.

I keep seeing this Entrust CA certificate popping up in the documentation. I have used this to verify a connection with the APNS gateway, but I am not using it in my connection while sending push messages because none of the examples I have seen show to use it. Is this required and if so then how do I use it?


UPDATE:

I have decided to try using PhoneGap to re-develop my apps and reach additional audiences, so I will close this for now. Thanks everyone for your help.

So you're saying it works with the Development certificate, but not when using the Production certificate (i.e. no message received)? –  Kitsune Dec 15 '12 at 5:43

AdHoc, can be distributed using Development Certificate. For that you don't need to use main apple gateway. Normal sandbox gateway is enough. –  arthankamal Jan 10 '13 at 5:23
    
@arthan.v Thats great, however I am distributing through the AppStore. Does that mean that me testing production Push Messages with an AdHoc build is futile? What is the best way to test the production environment before it goes live? –  SnareChops Jan 10 '13 at 5:34

Before you even look at the code, open the production Provisioning Profile and double check it has the entry:

    <key>ProvisionsAllDevices</key><true/>

I'm guessing the device is registered with the development profile so the fact that it works there but not with the prod leads me to believe the problem is with the profile itself. You have to have a Enterprise Developer account with Apple to be able to create a provision profile that can provision any device.

That seems odd as their instructions and advertisements are very misleading. I'm assuming that you are talking about the .mobileprovision distribution file, which does not contain that line. How is it that other developers can use the APNS service? –  SnareChops Dec 16 '12 at 14:28
    
Yes, it can be confusing. As you discovered, with your standard deveoloper account you can provision devices that you have registered to that account. It is assumed as a developer you will do all your testing on those devices. In order to distribute your app to any device it must be uploaded into Apple's App Store or you must purchase an Enterprise account. If you have the Enterprise account you can create and host what's known as an Enterprise App Store which allows you to bypass the Apple App Store all together. –  user1903020 Dec 16 '12 at 14:38
    
Are we talking about the same thing? I am not having problems distributing my app to others, or it running on their device. I sell all my apps through the Apple App Store like everyone else. I also understand that I can only test my apps on the devices that I register with XCode. The problem I am having is sending APNS push notifications to the users that already have my app. These are not arriving to my device either. So there has to be an internal problem in either the php script or the iOS script or a combination of the two. –  SnareChops Dec 17 '12 at 0:02
