How can I make shiro change back to "http" for URLs there were not configured with SSL?

Currently I have the login url hooked with an SSL filter.

/login = ssl[8443],authc

When I login, it stays in https, and does not switch back to HTTP.

How can I make it revert back to HTTP for URLs that are not SslFilter'ized?

If you're using form authentication you can customise the "on login" behaviour by extending FormAuthenticationFilter and re-directing to a non https URL.

Here is an example:

You'll also need some corresponding entries in shiro.ini:

This proposed solution is far from perfect, but gets the job done in the stack that I'm working with (shiro, jersey, tomcat), if you can find a better and/or more general purpose work-around please share it!

Good point. One question, in fromHttps method, why not use request.getServerName() and request.getServerPort() instead of constructing an originalURL? –  duckegg Jun 13 '14 at 12:45
