I'm stuck up in a weird situation in which a sessionFactory I've defined is getting autowired to a DAO class when i run it as a web app.

However, when i try to unit test this DAO class, spring is not autowiring the sessionFactory to the DAO class and throwing the below exception.

I've done hell lot of googling yet couldn't find a solution for this problem. I'd be really glad and grateful if you can help me out.

I'd like to state that what you are doing is rather integration testing, not unit testing. When we unit test Spring beans we test them in isolation, i.e. without the container - and provide the dependencies manually. –  Boris Treukhov Dec 19 '12 at 20:07

Instead of creating AnnotationConfigApplicationContext manually in your integration test, you should use Spring Test Context framework as Benoit suggested. Also it's not understood what thisSession is supposed to do, but tbh, it doesn't matter because using @RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class) is obvious choice anyway. –  Boris Treukhov Dec 19 '12 at 20:30

You need to configure JUnit so that it'll support Spring injection using the annotation:

import org.springframework.test.context.junit4.SpringJUnit4ClassRunner;

@RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)

Then you can Autowired your DAO to test it doing:
