I have an app in production that is crashing on specific devices and it is related to the BillingService class. These crashes occur at any time while the app is running and not just when making an in app purchase. Some users experience the crash soon after the app has started. Unfortunately we cannot replicate this issue on our end. This app is wrapped in PhoneGap but I don't believe this issue is related with PhoneGap.

Here is the stack trace that the Google Developer Console provides -

I found similar posts like this related to the BillingService on here and Google groups that suggested to put a null check in the handleCommand method.

I have implemented this below in my BillingService.java handleCommand method -

I have tested our app's in app purchase after this addition to BillingService.java and it is working fine. I can't get any of my Android devices to experience this crash so I don't know if this will solve the issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I wish I could replicate the issue so I could find the root cause but I haven't had any luck.

I should have showed the start of line 165 in BillingService.java

Here it is -

Sorry I should have noted that. Line 165 starts an if check. if (startIntentSender == null) { try { startIntentSender = activity.getClass().getMethod("startIntentSender", START_INTENT_SENDER_SIG); } catch (SecurityException e) { startIntentSender = null; } catch (NoSuchMethodException e) { startIntentSender = null; } } –  Ross Dec 29 '12 at 23:56

Just in passing, unless you specifically need in app billing v2, try in app billing v3, it's a lot easier to implement. –  AndroidPenguin Dec 30 '12 at 0:05
