I've got a script:

for L in C:O[L.split(':')[0]]=L.rsplit(':',1)[1]
for K in O.keys():
   T,i=T.replace(K,K+' ( '+O[K]+' )',1),i+1
   if i%x==1:print 'line:',i

As I'm sure most of you guys know, this opens "input.txt", and splits it into two. Then opens "output.txt". And then searches for the first 'split' of the input.txt, and replaces it with $split1 ($split2). Then writes to strange.txt.

My problem is, if there are duplicate entries inside output.txt it will only replace the first occurrence and completely neglect the rest.


$ echo '123:456' >  output.txt
$ echo '123:456' >> output.txt
$ echo '123:456' >> input.txt
$ python
$ cat strange.txt
123 ( 456 ):456

How do I fix this problem?

On top of everything else, you really should have your file accesses inside context guards (i.e. with open(path, mode) as var:) – jpm Jan 3 '13 at 22:27

If you want all occurences replaced, do not specify a limiting number of replacements!!

T.replace(K,K+' ( '+O[K]+' )',1)


T.replace(K,K+' ( '+O[K]+' )')
