After using the endless road algorithm as described here, I also implemented the scrolling of walls along with it. I have the walk animation of the person which is stationed at the center of the screen.

What I did : Background scrolling is implemented according to the endless road algorithm

What's the problem? The Image of the man is also scrolling like that of the endless road.

What I want : The animation of the person should not scroll but the background should scroll.

I tried along playing with the matrices in openglES using the method... "gl.glMatrixMode(GL10.GL_TEXTURE)" but the resultant was that the background scrolling stopped but animation was successful.

I know I am wrong somewhere but I am not able to find my mistake.

Create a field in GLSquare called texturePos.

private float texturePos = 0.0f;

Replace your acceleration section with this:

_acceleration = Math.max(_acceleration, 0.002f);
texturePos += acceleration;
gl.glMatrixMode(GL10.GL_TEXTURE);
gl.glPushMatrix();
gl.glTranslatef(0, texturePos, 0);
gl.glMatrixMode(GL10.GL_MODELVIEW);
incrementTex -= _acceleration;

Notice we push the current matrix onto the stack before translating by texturePos instead of _acceleration and also texturePos is incremented by _acceleration.

Then at the end of your draw method add the following:

gl.glMatrixMode(GL10.GL_TEXTURE);
gl.glPopMatrix();
gl.glMatrixMode(GL10.GL_MODELVIEW);

So we pop the old texture matrix back off the stack so it's back to normal.


Alternatively you could also just call

gl.glMatrixMode(GL10.GL_TEXTURE);
gl.glLoadIdentity();

Before drawing your man, but the first method is better because it will work in more situations.
