After seeing several forums and tutorials for Google maps for Android, and I have this

And I modified the manifest like this, according to Google developers

Also I add the API key to the layout

It runs, but the map do not appear on the screen, any suggestions?

Few things that might have to be changed for your code to work:

1) Your class Maps Activity should extend FragmentActivity

2) Your xml code should be like this

    <fragment xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:id="@+id/map"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="match_parent"
    class="com.google.android.gms.maps.SupportMapFragment"/>

3) Your manifest file should be having this information rechecked :

    <meta-data
        android:name="com.google.android.maps.v2.API_KEY"
        android:value="YOUR_API_KEY"/>

Hey why the below stuff is required in your Manifest file

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION"/>   
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION"/> 
 <permission 
    android:name="tovar.testing.permission.MAPS_RECEIVE"
    android:protectionLevel="signature"/>
<uses-permission android:name="tovar.testing.permission.MAPS_RECEIVE"/>
<uses-feature 
    android:glEsVersion="0x00020000"
    android:required="true"/>    

You have written all your code in Maps V1 and trying to add the permissions which are required for Maps V2. If you want to build a Maps Activity V2 then completely omit V1.

More Importantly your MapView Tag is very Big Mistake

There is no such tag accepting class=".....MapFragment".

I suggest you to look at only Maps V2 and proceed with development

@vctr47 you mixed V1 and V2 codes. there is no apiKey attribute in Maps V2. you have to set api key only in Manifest File as GridtestMail answered you. –  TNR Jan 11 '13 at 12:36
