I have an ASP.net app, and I'm using the following connection string:

When I read in the application, everything works. But when I write, I'm getting this error: "Ad hoc access to OLE DB provider 'ADSDSOObject' has been denied. You must access this provider through a linked server."

Except I don't think I'm using an "ADSDSOObject" anywhere in this project. I'm opening up a connection with a standard SqlData handle.

What's really weird is that this is the fourth insert of four, and it's the last ExecuteNonQuery (on an insert) before I commit the transaction.

What could be causing this particular error?

ADSDSOObject is used to query an Active Directory.

The error seems to be generated in SQL-server and not in your application. I suspect that there could be a constraint or trigger that validates the passed LoginName (@alteredBy) or assignee (@assignedTo) using ADSDSOObject against Active Directory.

Nailed it. We just moved the database from one system to another, and no-one remembered there was a trigger on that table to send e-mail under certain conditions. –  Clinton Pierce Jan 14 '13 at 16:14

This narrowed down the problem to a function called by the trigger. At least now I know where it's coming from, even if I can't figure out the the "Ad hoc access to OLE DB provider 'ADSDSOObject' has been denied." even though ad-hoc has been turned on for the database and reconfigure run. –  Clinton Pierce Jan 14 '13 at 16:50
