I'm about to handle synchronizing my application basic data with many other external application. Each external application are serving their basic data with services. I decide to create a proxy system consists of a caching system and a synchronization system.

Caching system, is to store received data from an external system, also a mapping between external data and internal data. For example, assume a Person object. I should store a Person in my system, along with Person Identity of other 10 external systems, then invoke some services from each external system and update Person properties based on invocation results.

I should return reports to all external systems with their own identities (I've talk to them with their own language)

Now, what are your suggested patterns to map, cache and sync data with these external systems?

First of all: does every external system manage a distinct subset of data? i.e. assuming we are dealing with "persons" can we say that no two systems manage the same person? – p.marino Jan 14 '13 at 22:18

Have you considered an ESB? I have used Mule (mulesoft.org) to successfully integrate many heterogeneous systems. It allows you to create simple "flows" that interface with external clients. It's open sourced and very stable. – ryan1234 Jan 14 '13 at 22:56
