I am trying to optimize the following code:

y(:,:,:,1) contains positions in a NxN lattice y has the form:
y(Ny,Nx,(x_component, y_component), (position,velocity)).
I need the output in
size(y) = (1,L) form as this method is used as input for the ode45 solver.
Obviously reshaping the arrays every time is an overhead, is there a way to avoid this?
