I wanted to submit my implementation for failover connection class to see if there are any improvements on clarity/performance.

I wanted to have an application send me a primary and secondary (optional) server (currently get them through interface in constructor ultimately that gets filled in by the app.config). Here is my implementation so far.

This implementation has the ability to add options through a string/string (key/value) method or a enum/string implementation. Here is my enum example:

    Password,
    [ConnectionStringDisplay("Trusted_Connection")]

}

This usage is fairly straight forward:

    PrimaryServer = "primary",

var userConnectionString = new UserConnectionString(configuration);
userConnectionString.AddOptions("Initial Catalog", "DatabaseName");
userConnectionString.AddConstrainedOption(ConfigurationOption.TrustedConnection, "True");
userConnectionString.AddConstrainedOption(ConfigurationOption.TimeOut, "30");
foreach (var currentConnection in userConnectionString.ProduceFailOverConnectionString())

I guess my biggest suggestion would be to look for established alternatives rather than implement this in code. Most enterprise database solutions have the ability to setup failover nodes. It's possible you might have some specialized need for this code, but go with something that is built specifically for this scenario. –  Josh Feb 3 '13 at 20:27
