I have a code for Quick Sort that looks like this,

quicksort is called in main routine as

mark is an integer array of size N which has unsorted random numbers ranging from 1 to 20000. sorted_index is another integer array of size N having numbers in incremental order from 0 to N-1. In this particular case N has value 677695

The code operates on variable number of data in an unsorted data array. I see that when the number of elements in the unsorted array increases beyond some value(I am not sure of an exact value), I get segmentation fault. What could be the reason ?

1) Is this because of the recursive call to quicksort routine ? Stackoverflow ?

Can you pull up a stack trace? If this is a stack overflow, you'd see a huge number of recursive calls being made. If not, it should point you at the specific line of code it didn't like. – templatetypedef Feb 7 '13 at 3:56

That rules out a stack overflow (the stack is barely even in use here). Note that the error you are getting is in printf. The code you have above doesn't have a printf in it. At this point I don't think we can help you, since the code that you've posted above is not the same code that you're running. Can you please post a small, self-contained, reproducible test case so that we can see exactly what your code is doing? – templatetypedef Feb 7 '13 at 4:04
