I am getting some weird errors and I would like some help. Here's the code:

Obs.h:

class Obs;

struct Try : public std::pair<Item&, std::pair<int, int> > {

ObsHolder.h:

The main error I get is:

'Pred::operator ()': function call missing argument list; use '&Pred::operator ()' to create a pointer to member

I also get:

c:\program files (x86)\microsoft visual studio 11.0\vc\include\utility(85): error C2440: 'initializing' : cannot convert from 'int' to 'Item &'

And a few under "*my_path*\microsoft visual studio 11.0\vc\include\utility(83)" complaining about std::pair

It spells it out! use '&Pred::operator ()' to create a pointer to member –  sehe Feb 8 '13 at 11:17
    
@sehe Even if this is spelled out, this wont work. bind2nd doesn't take pointers to members as arguments. –  pmr Feb 8 '13 at 11:20

Trimming interesting things like filename and line number from a compiler error doesn't help things in the least. –  DevSolar Feb 8 '13 at 13:55

There are tons of things wrong here.

  1. pair cannot take reference template arguments. You need to use std::reference_wrapper.
  2. Do not use the deprecated binders. They have problems with reference arguments.
  3. Do not inherit from pair. It does not have a virtual destructor.

If you really want to use bind2nd: It doesn't take a member function pointer as argument, but a value of a callable object.

A complete example in modern C++. I still wouldn't use std::list<Obs*> but something that manages memory itself.
