So I followed the directions on this website http://www.scipy.org/Installing_SciPy/Mac_OS_X, downloaded Xcode and Fortran Gcc and then ran the following from the terminal:

The error output suggests that you don't have clang installed? "sh: clang: command not found". Can you run "clang --version" in your terminal? –  JCash Feb 10 '13 at 17:54

I recently had a similar problem. I recommend using Homebrew's numpy and scipy formulas. They will build from source, but I had no problem with them.

After you download Xcode 4, you then need to have it install its Command Line Tools component. Launch Xcode, then choose Xcode -> Preferences -> Downloads -> Components. That will install clang and other build tools so they are available from the command line.

Yes. On the other hand, from your new comment above, it appears you already have them installed. Still it wouldn't hurt to try. Unfortunately, Numpy has a complicated build procedure because it is dependent on many other components. You will probably be better off in the long run if you use either a binary distribution of Numpy or use a third-party package manager like MacPorts or Homebrew to install everything. BTW, what version of OS X are you using? –  Ned Deily Feb 11 '13 at 5:42
    
yes ive downloaded so many things, i dont even know which components are making it work right now haha, all that matters is i got it working...successflly installed and built and imported yay! –  Megan Feb 11 '13 at 13:34

I had no problem with pip install numpy. Though you should install pip first.

I was facing the same issue!! i resolved by installing g95 Fortran compiler with macports!
use macports to install it as sudo port install g95 @0.92

That was my next go to but I downloaded the correct GCC and homebrew and it seems to be working now –  Megan Feb 11 '13 at 13:35
