# How should we normalize(in between 0-1) the facebook pages(coming up from a particular keyword) on the basis the no of like?

How should we normalize(in between 0-1) the facebook pages(coming up from a particular keyword) on the basis the no of like( and talking about) ?

## EDIT: I am trying to rank the pages coming from a given set of tags, while It I want to give some weight to no. of likes (within a tag)

We are getting few pages(can go up to 50 or more) from facebook (through fql/graph query). Now I want to put a score/normalize on the pages and only on the basis of No of Likes the page have.

For now I am planing to normalize on relative scoring which will be based on the difference of the no. of like of 2nd highest and 2nd lowest.

Can someone help me to find the better method?

Divide each number of likes by highest number of likes, or (not recommended) some number expected to be bigger than max likes if you don't want to iterate through all of them to get the max. If the numbers are similar you may want to say `(num - min) / (max - min)`. –  Dukeling Feb 13 '13 at 14:09

Hi @Dukeling, there are some edge cases which I am facing is that: In some tag there are some pages which have 4.3m lkes(eg[facebook.com/shoppersstopindia].) which make to give less score to pages having say 30K likes. now pages from other tag having same no of likes(30k) will have much more difference than it. I'm not sure I'm quite following, but in any case - the only other thing I'll suggest is to scale all the number of likes to some fractional power (say square root or cube root) as a pre-processing step. –  Dukeling Feb 13 '13 at 16:23
