I'm having some problems with the dojo/aspect module.

I have a widget (let's call it class 'B') with a function called 'test'. This widget inherits from this base class (let's call it class 'A') which also implements this function I'm talking about. Now - in function 'test' in class 'B' I say:

this.inherited(arguments);

... which arranges the function in class 'A' to be called as well.

Then I write this:

require(['dojo/aspect'], function (dojoAspect) {
    dojoAspect.before(bAsObject, 'test', function () {
        alert('Ok then...');
    });
});

Note: to simplify the example, bAsObject is of course an object of B.

For some reason, when I use .before(), it fires, but when I use .after(), it doesn't. But that's kinda crucial in my case. I wan't this alert to fire AFTER 'test' is completed in both classes. Even if this was not crucial, I just don't understand the difference, and I wan't to.

Perhaps a dojo core bug?

I'm not seeing the same issue as you, this fiddle works exactly as expected (check the debugger breakpoints and console logs). What version of Dojo are you running? Are you getting any JavaScript errors? –  Default Feb 19 '13 at 2:28
    
I'm running the latest 1.8.3 and no, there is no JS errors at all. It just simply doesn't fire. I'll dig more into it. Kinda off topic, but anyway (to achieve what's on topic): how to fully debug in this AMD?? It's driving me nuts. It's a great format, but debugging in it's full form is kinda impossible. –  Alex Feb 19 '13 at 10:02
    
Ok. Found out that I simply cannot debug. I'm kinda injecting this code on the fly via Xhr only after the page loads (when user clicks a button, a dialog opens up, then I load a ASP MVC action via Xhr). Everything works as expected, except this .after(). Anyway, in Chrome, there is no code under the "Sources" tab (whilst the initial code is). –  Alex Feb 19 '13 at 10:09
    
Found out there was a small & completely unimportant bug on the last line of B:test(). That's why I didn't notice it so I couldn't fix it. Now I did. Regarding injected JS code - found out about JS's "debugger" statement :) –  Alex Feb 19 '13 at 10:53
    
I'm glad you got it figured out. Yeah, I've found that the best ways to debug your widgets is to ensure that you have "Stop on Exceptions" enabled in your developer tool's Source tab (the stop sign shape with a pause symbol should be light blue) and to put breakpoints where I need to inspect some odd behavior. Can use debugger also like you discovered, but that is generally discouraged so that you don't accidentally let a debugger slip into production code. –  Default Feb 19 '13 at 12:54
