I am sending some data to an android application over UDP. Therefore i created the following UDPReceiver-Class:

As you see i want to check the status of the UDPReceiver-Object (Is there a new complete byte[] ready?) by a thread. To update the GUI, the thread has to send a Message to MyHandler which will update the GUI.

In the moment i have to to click a button to raise the buttonClick-Event. Later on i want to do this in the commented thread-structure.

Now, here's my problem: I start the Activity and everything works fine. Then i am starting to send ONE packet manually with my UDP-Sender (which works, i validated it with a C#-UDP-Receiver). The first packet get received fine. Then i send the second packet which get received, too. But from now on, my breakpoint at m_Socket.receive(packet); wont get hit anymore!

I have NO idea what this behaviour causes and it is very important for me to make this application work. Please, if you have ANY Idea or just a guess, please let me know.

I assume you have internet permissions set in the Manifest? (You must do otherwise you'd get a logcat Exception and nothing at all) –  Kerry Feb 19 '13 at 20:11
    
Also have you tried adding a timeout to the socket and catching the SocketTimeoutException where you can print a line to Log? –  Kerry Feb 19 '13 at 20:15
    
Yes, Internet-Permission and Network-State-Permissions are set. No, i did not not try to add a timeout, but what useful informations could i archive by doing this? –  Roland Feb 19 '13 at 20:25
    
You can at least see if the socket still exists perhaps. How are you testing this, on the emulator or on a device? If you're using the Emulator you could use tcpdump (if you're on Linux) to see what's coming into the network adapter. –  Kerry Feb 19 '13 at 20:31
