I'm trying to implement a binary tree with doubles, but I believe my doubles comparison is not correct. When I feed it ints it works properly; however, if I insert doubles with many trailing decimal places, I get a segfault.

Here's what my insertion function looks like:

x2 normally looks something like: 50.91747014595311071616 However if it's 50 or any other whole number, insert works just fine.

I would greatly appreciate any help!

Never, EVER use approximate comparison for sorting. It is not transitive. (val < node->val) and (val > node->val) should work. –  n.m. Feb 27 '13 at 16:14
    
abs returns int, you should use fabs. And you shouldn't use char * with manual memory management - use std::string. –  Tadeusz Kopec Feb 27 '13 at 16:17

Let me be more specific, strcat does not allocate new space. So how do you know temp->str is large enough to hold the results of the strcat? –  Shafik Yaghmour Feb 27 '13 at 16:31
