Given processes are :
P1: C=D * E
P2: M=G + C
P3: A=B + C
P4: C=L + M
P5: F=G + E
The processes are assumed to be single statements for simplicity.
Resource Dependence is concerned with conflicts in using shared resources such as integer units,floating point units , registers and memory areas , among parallel events.
According to the text in Kai Hwang's book on Advanced Computer Architecture:-
P2 is resource dependent on P3. P2 is resource dependent on P4. P3 is resource dependent on P4.
My interpretation of the above facts is that the following processes are resource dependent because they use same variable.For example: P2 and P3 use the variable(referring to the same memory location or the same register)
C , P2 and P4 use the same variables
M in common,thus are resource dependent.
Same goes for P3 and P4.
But then P1 also uses the variable
C and has no resource dependency to any other process.Why?
Is is because the operation is different( of multiplication, whereas other processes are addition
processes) in P1?
