This is an example from ActionBarSherlock samples, I completely follow this sample, but findViewById(android.R.id.tabhost) returns null, and my application breaks with NullPointerException. Does anyone know solution of this problem?

NEVER use android.R in your project (even though sometimes eclipse may suggest you to do so) !!!

It does not refer to the generated R.java that contains the generated ids for the elements in your XML layout and is thus, the root of many problems beginners face!

Always use R instead of android.R

So, your code should be findViewById(R.id.tabhost)

No no. Simply use mTabHost = (TabHost)findViewById(R.id.tabhost); – Swayam Mar 9 '13 at 10:28
    
But when I change to the "R.id.tabhost" eclipse says that "tabhost" cannot be resolved or is not a field – Roma djan Mar 9 '13 at 10:32
    
In that case you need to clean and build your project. Do not import android.R even if Eclipse suggests you to do so. Perform clean and build. Also make sure that your xml files do not have any errors. – Swayam Mar 9 '13 at 10:34
    
Now there is new exception: Your TabHost must have a TabWidget whose id attribute is 'android.R.id.tabs' – Roma djan Mar 9 '13 at 10:49

Change this

mTabHost = (TabHost)findViewById(android.R.id.tabhost);

do:-

  mTabHost = (TabHost)findViewById(R.id.tabhost);
