I am writing a encrypting/decrypting program and I am having trouble with the decryption process:

phrase = 'WHO WATCHES THE WATCHERS'
def chunker(seq, size):
    return (seq[pos:pos + size] for pos in xrange(0, len(seq), size)) # Thanks to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/434287/what-is-the-most-pythonic-way-to-iterate-over-a-list-in-chunks/434328#434328
def encrypt(word,block):
    l = []
    for g in chunker(word.split(),block):
         l.extend(i[::-1] for i in reversed(g))
    return 'X'.join(l)

and these were the results:

>>> encrypt(phrase,2)
'SEHCTAWXOHWXSREHCTAWXEHT'

>>> 'RUOXSIXAIONARAPXNOISSEFORP' == encrypt('PARANOIA IS OUR PROFESSION', 3)
True

# Strings mentioned above and below were your expected answers 
# mentioned in the question

>>> 'MODEERFXFOXECIRPXEHTXECNELIGIVXLANRETEXSI' == encrypt('THE PRICE OF FREEDOM IS ETERNAL VIGILENCE', 4)
True

The problem I am dealing with are :

Decrypting nothing

>>> decrypt('', 8) # Test 9
''

Decrypting a single word

>>> decrypt('NOITPYRCNE', 3) # Test 10
'ENCRYPTION'

Decrypting some ciphertext with the block size used to encrypt it

>>> decrypt('TONXSIXYTIRUCESXTUBXTCUDORPXAXSSECORPXA', 3) # Test 11
'SECURITY IS NOT A PRODUCT BUT A PROCESS'

Decrypting the same ciphertext but with the wrong block size

>>> decrypt('TONXSIXYTIRUCESXTUBXTCUDORPXAXSSECORPXA', 4) # Test 12
'BUT SECURITY IS NOT A PROCESS A PRODUCT'

Decrypting some long ciphertext

>>> decrypt('EVIHCRAXTONXODXOHWXESOHTXOTX' + \
            'DENMEDNOCXERAXTSAPXEHTXTIXEPYTER', 5) # Test 13
'THOSE WHO DO NOT ARCHIVE THE PAST ARE CONDEMNED TO RETYPE IT'

How do I reverse the encrypter?

Note that since encrypt uses X to join the "encrypted" words, the encryption is not reversible if the "encrypted" words contain the letter X:

In [60]: decrypt(encrypt('BOWL OF CHOCOLATE',3),3)
Out[60]: 'BOWL OF CHOCOLATE'

In [59]: decrypt(encrypt('BOX OF CHOCOLATE',3),3)
Out[59]: ' OF CHOCOLATE BO'

In [61]: decrypt(encrypt(' OF CHOCOLATE BO',3),3)
Out[61]: 'OF CHOCOLATE BO'

phrase = 'WHO WATCHES THE WATCHERS'


def chunker(seq, size):
