I create a wireframe using matplotlib as follows:

X,Y=np.meshgrid(X,Y)

ax.plot_wireframe(X,Y,Z)
plt.show()

The code runs, doesn't complain but the picture I get is really strange (to me), so my questions are:

  1. Can anyone explain to me why the wiring (so to speak) is arranged the way it is?
  2. How do i decide 'how' to wire my data (Why would I need to? I was expecting that this function would connect the Z value of each grid coordinate).
  3. How is it possible that the original X, Y and Z are of length 165 but after performing my meshgrid X and Y are of length 11 (11*11 = 121, missing 44 values?)

You'll need to reshape the Z array:

XX, YY = meshgrid(X, Y)
ZZ = reshape(Z, XX.shape)
ax.plot_wireframe(XX, YY, ZZ)

That fixed the wiring, cheers! Would you be able to explain why I have 11 values in the reshaped arrays however as I don't see a 11x11 grid can contain 165 measurement values. –  Bas Jansen Apr 3 '13 at 14:39

len(XX), len(YY) and len(ZZ) all report a length of 11 –  Bas Jansen Apr 3 '13 at 15:36
    
what about XX.shape? len(XX) only reports the length of the first dimension. –  David Zwicker Apr 3 '13 at 17:20
