I made a simple Java converter, where it converts KM to M, Celsius to Fahrenheit and KG to G. Converting kilometers<->meters and kilograms<->grams seems okay. But when I enter values for the temperature I always get this error:

Can anyone tell me what's wrong? 'Cause whenever I enter a value for the Celsius and press the calculate button, that error always appear.

Any aanswer, comment or suggestion will be much appreciated :)

well its telling you that the string is empty so it cant turn it into a number, if it works one way, could it be that converting the other way its checking for the input in the wrong text field? –  Alex Edwards Apr 11 '13 at 19:29

From your code I guess you are inputing degree OR celsius and not both. But here

You are parsing both. As a result one of them is empty and can't be parsed to a double. You need to check first which one is not empty like that :

    // Processing ...
  } else if(!two.getText().isEmpty()) { 
    String fah = two.getText();
    double fah2 = Double.parseDouble(fah);

  }
}

I didn't pay attention but you were already doing it with km and kg that's why it only happens with temperature.

I think I already got it...

I place the wrong textfields that's why it says it's empty...

so before, here's my code:

String cel = one.getText();

                        String result2 = Double.toString(result);
                        one.setText(result2); }

if cel not empty, it should calculate the value of cel to fahrenheit, but I placed here the value of the textfield two (which is the fah) and I never realized that that the second textbox is empty, that's why it has en error of an empty string..

so here's my present code:

                     String fah = two.getText();
if(!cel.isEmpty()) {
                            double cel2 = Double.parseDouble(cel);
                            result = cel2 * 1.8 + 32;
                            String result2 = Double.toString(result);

now if the cel is not empty, it will get the value of the cel and convert it to fahrenheit.. since the the textbox one has a value in it, it doesn't show the empty string error anymore..
