I am trying to allow the user to save their kinecticjs creation using client side scripting. I tried bytescout to generate a pdf, but I do not think it allows using a kineticjs stage. So I guess I need an alternative. Maybe allow them to download it as an image? But is it possible using JS/jQuery? Or do I need to use php?

This is all about the canvas element, not kineticjs. See above link for lots of information on how to do this. – Hogan Apr 13 '13 at 14:59

What about this:

stage.toDataURL({
      callback: function(dataUrl) {
        window.open(dataUrl);
      }
    });
