Database: sqlserver 2008. The following query is extremely slow. I'm looking to get this beast to run faster, rewrite the query, but I'm stumped. I can comment out all the sum case statements and group by clauses to leave just the shell of a query with the select sum(0) and the where clause and the performance doesn't change much. So I'm pretty sure the problem is with the where clause. But, I'm not sure how to rewrite this one to try any other alternatives.

Anyone want to test their SQL-fu on this one? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

That function is quick -- less than a second. It was initially a multi-statement table valued function which I converted to an inline table valued function. That change did improve performance, but overall still terrible. –  shawno Apr 15 '13 at 13:36

Add at the end of the query hint - option(recompile)
