I have my application crashing with following CallStack on the error (from WinDbg):

This is a managed application, and according to WinDbg there are 61 processes / threads running from that application. In WinDbg, when typing !threads, it says there are no export threads found. It doesn't say what error caused this (in Visual Studio 2010, it says a NullReferenceException).

I am going nuts, I thought this was related to a USB Serial Controller, but I put that into another application, and it still crashes (although not with 100% as earlier, but rather with like 80%).

This exception / error completely eludes me, and I can't figure out how to fix it.

The communication exception is being caught (this happens, when the WCF Host is not up, and may happen on disconnecting the hardware). I doubt that this is the cause for my crash since in Visual Studio it always crashes with a NullReferenceException, but no CallStack / Disassembly available.

Do you have any code where you know it's crashing? Or is that what you intend to find out? –  ThaMe90 Apr 15 '13 at 14:00
    
This is completely my code except the cameras API I use. I want to find out, why it crashes when it does (power off the hardware attached to the system). If I could find out if its an error by how I communicate with the cameras, or how I communicate with my MicroController (via WCF and a 2nd application), or something else causing a deadlock, or whatever. I want to find out, why it crashes in the first place. –  SinisterMJ Apr 15 '13 at 14:04
    
This stacktrace looks innocent. Have you enabled Win32 exceptions in WinDbg? I have seen where managed apps had crashes in their Win32 calls, and WinDbg wouldn't show the source of the crashes because by default Win32 is not handled by WinDbg. –  StarPilot Apr 15 '13 at 14:37

Regarding not being able to run !threads did you first load SOS before running the command? (via .loadby sos clr for .NET4 or .loadby sos mscorwks for .NET2)? –  Iridium Apr 15 '13 at 14:43

If possible, re-run your app under WinDbg and enable break on CLR exceptions. Wait for the error to occur, and you should then be able to use !pe, and !clrstack -a to show the call stack with the parameters (including the IntPtr passed to MDA). –  Iridium Apr 15 '13 at 15:29

The stack trace you've posted does not seem to be related to crash, as it is in a sleeping state, waiting for something.

You can take a look at windows event log, sometimes CLR places a meaningful message there when application crashes.

Also, if you are using .Net 4 or higher, it is much more convenient to analyze managed process dumps in visual studio, as you can easily navigate between threads and even build a composite thread diagram that will show only different parts in their call stacks.

This stack trace looks innocent. Try enabling Win32 exceptions in WinDbg. I have seen managed applications crashing in their underlying Win32 calls, and WinDbg wouldn't show the source of the crash correctly because by default Win32 exceptions aren't handled.
