I wrote a small program to read the colour of a pixel at the mouse pointer location. But I am not getting the colour at mouse pointer, always RGB {0, 0, 0} is printing on console. Please fix/correct the program below so that it prints the colour of a pixel at mouse pointer.

Update these lines to:

Image image = new Image(e.display, 20, 20);
GC gc = new GC(image);
gc.copyArea(image, e.x, e.y);

This:

Image image = new Image(e.display, 1, 1);
GC gc = new GC((Canvas)e.widget);
gc.copyArea(image, e.x, e.y);

The GC gc = new GC((Canvas)e.widget); is important.

And as a good practice, dispose the GC and the image objects once you are done !

Its not working completely, Only the first pixel colour is printing properly(i.e when mouse pointer enters first time on the canvas area). All next mouse move events are printing RGB {0, 0, 0}. Any idea? –  Chandrayya G K Apr 18 '13 at 10:47
    
Which OS, SWT, Java version are you using? The example is working fine on Win7, SWT 3.7.2 and Oracle JDK 1.6_b35. Even if you just update the GC gc = new GC(image); to GC gc = new GC((Canvas)e.widget); it works. –  Favonius Apr 18 '13 at 10:51
    
Oh. I am using Ubuntu 12.04. JDK 1.6_b39 and SWT 4.234(Not sure). Is it dependent on OS –  Chandrayya G K Apr 18 '13 at 11:03
    
Could be, as SWT is a thin wrapper around native OS APIs. Also as you mentioned that you are getting RGB {0, 0, 0} as output but for my dev config it was returning RGB {255, 255, 255} (before I applied the above fix). May be someone with your dev config might help you. –  Favonius Apr 18 '13 at 17:17
