Actually i am new on android and i'm making a small android apps for me to capture a photo and upload it to a web server, I've found some example code to do it.

The problem is that it works great on both landscape or portrait when i start the apps, but if i change the orientation from landscape to portrait or from portrait to landscape, it crashed.

Have you prepared separate layout for landscape mode ? Because when the orientation changes from Landscpe to portrait or viceversa, all the views gets destroyed and new views are created, which you are going to provide by creating separate layout xml for landscape. –  Chintan Soni Apr 26 '13 at 5:40

make sure to Call mCamera.release() to release the camera in onPause() and reopen the camera in onResume() using mCamera.reconnect()

Try to add following attribute in manifest file of your activity

try to use

< activity name= ".YourActivity" android:configChanges="orientation|screenSize"/>

in manifest file

By declaring this android will manage itself state of your activity. Probably it will stop crashing activity.

Add the following to you activity in manifest.

In the YourActivity.java

Append the following code:
