I am using kAudioUnitType_FormatConverter nodes in my AUGraph. The nodes have such description:

AudioComponentDescription varispeedUnitDescription;
varispeedUnitDescription.componentType          = kAudioUnitType_FormatConverter;
varispeedUnitDescription.componentSubType       = kAudioUnitSubType_Varispeed;
varispeedUnitDescription.componentManufacturer  = kAudioUnitManufacturer_Apple;
varispeedUnitDescription.componentFlags         = 0;
varispeedUnitDescription.componentFlagsMask     = 0;

Everything works correctly on simulator: sound is playing correctly from all nodes. But when I run it on iPad the sound is missing: just silence, no noise, no sound at all. Though there are no errors in debug console (I'm checking OSStatus result after every operation with nodes).

The sound is playing both on simulator and iPad only when I change componentSubtype from

varispeedUnitDescription.componentSubType = kAudioUnitSubType_Varispeed;

to

varispeedUnitDescription.componentSubType = kAudioUnitSubType_AUConverter;

So my question is: why sound is not playing with node with subtype kAudioUnitSubType_Varispeed? According to the Apple documentation kAudioUnitSubType_Varispeed is supported since iOS5. My iPad has version iOs 6.1.

UPD1: I've currently changed kAudioUnitSubType_Varispeed to kAudioUnitSubType_NewTimePitch since it's pitch is more suitable in my case. With NewTimePitch sound is good on simulator and no sound at all on iPad.

What about errors in my app, I'm checking OSStatus result after every operation in my AUGraph like this: if (noErr != result) { NSLog(@"AUGraphAddNode inputNodes[%d]", busNumber); [self printErrorMessage: @"AUGraphNewNode failed for inputNode unit" withStatus: result]; return; } And there are no errors in logs nor on simulator neither on iPad – Ted Harner Apr 28 '13 at 20:21
