Trying to turn this in to a program where I can enter the number of disk/rings for it. I got the number of rings the computer sees to work, but the output isn't right. IF I input exactly 3 it works fine, but if I put in less than that it still loads the graphics for all 3 but only moves however many I told the computer there are. if I input more than that, say 6, it manipulates the numbers in the notused are of the data(which actually are used but they are just graphics from what I can tell) twice basically starting over from the begging. as long as the number I enter is exactly the same as the number of items in the not used(seriously I could put w,g,f,t,n,u there and enter 6 and it would work fine) it works fine.

I think what I need to do is find a way to populate the notused are with the numbers 1-n, with n being the number I entered, but I have no idea how to do that. Here is my code so far:

Anyone have any idea of how to make the not used be populated dynamically like I need it to be?

sounds like dynamic memory allocation. what I got from here: stackoverflow.com/questions/2422252/… is that heap allocation is os dependant, so using "pure" assembler you'll have to stick with the stack –  andrjas Apr 30 '13 at 22:40
    
I'm using MARS, a MIPS emulator of sorts. I know thats what I have to do just not how to do it. –  user2060164 May 1 '13 at 13:56
    
It's similar to what you did in PrintTowers (and that's how compilers save register values in between function calls). Let's say you want to store 4 values in this dynamic memory: sub $sp, $sp, 16 (16 = 4*4). Then you can use it with 0($sp), 4($sp), 8($sp) and 12($sp) like any pointer. Don't forget to "release" the stack afterwards: add $sp, $sp, 16 –  andrjas May 3 '13 at 12:53
