I am trying to fit a quadratic spline to my data series in order to obtain a smooth curve on which I want to obtain the coordinates of the maximum value. I have tried this:

where f_Alava is my dataframe. This way I always get this error:
Error in if (nrow(layer_data) == 0) return() : argument is of length zero
How can I solve this problem? Also, how can I get a vector containing all the values for the max of the variable 'age' for each 'year' based on the smoothing curve?
