I'd like to put the values from a txt file into an XML Document using R. The txt file holding the values looks like this:

..for every line in the text file a category and symbol with the appropiate value, label and colors ('v') should be created, the symbol name is 0 to n.

I'd like to use the R-Package XML for this - is this feasible?

I'd procede like this putting the nodes one after the other.. Is this appropiate? However, I'm rather clueless how to make the loops to achieve the nested structure of the symbol nodes..

What links the <symbol> tags with the <category> tags? Did you mean to put symbol=1 for your second category? XML this simple can be created quite easily with the brew package and a template with a couple of loops. –  Spacedman May 3 '13 at 11:14
    
Yes, it should say symbol=1 in the second category - I edited this.. So, I think it is the name in symbol that links the two. –  Kay May 3 '13 at 11:32

It is not helpful to post your data as you have done. It is better to use dput or something similar. Please have a look at make a great R example.
