I used z3py 4.1 to check the satisfiability. It took a very long time (3+ hours) but didn't return the result (SAT or UNSAT) My main questions are:

  • Is there any trick or flag of Z3py that I could apply to accelerate this satisfiability check?
  • The function (TimedZ3Check) didn't terminate Z3py on my assigned time limit (300 seconds). Is there a "standard" way of setting timeout for Z3py?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

It seems your problem is beyond the capabilities of the current nonlinear real arithmetic solver (nlsat) used in Z3. We plan to have better solvers for this fragment in the future. Regarding timeouts, you can set a timeout using the following command after you create usolver.

  usolver.set('timeout', 1000)

The timeout is in milliseconds. BTW, the timer may not work on version 4.1, we fixed some problems with timers in some platforms (e.g., OSX). Please update Z3 to the latest version if it does not work.
