Above is the two different class one is JMenu and the other is a JFrame. I want to call the second Option pane by clicking on the new in JMenu...

I really can't figure out what's wrong. You have an actionPerformed method. Identify when the new menu item is triggered (through the actionPerformed method) and show the other window...the difficult part is figuring out what was clicked as you've not set the action command property of the menu... –  MadProgrammer May 9 '13 at 6:15

Separate your concerns, that means, use a separate action for your menu items. just add an action or actionlistener to your plainTextMenuItem and call new JOptionPaneDemo();

              new JOptionPaneDemo();
       }
});
