Solving coupled equations in python

I want to know how to solve coupled equations in python using scipy or any other module. The equations are as follows (sorry for the ugly notation).

1. `gam^2 = a_0*f(gam)`, where `a_0` is known const.

2. `f(gam) = sumover_i_1toN { rho_i*(z_i + N_i*sigma_i)^2 }`

3. `-(z_i + N_i * sigma_i)gam = N_i + c_0 * sigma_i * sumover_j_1toN{ rho_j*sigma_j*(z_j+N_j*sigma_j)}`,

4. and `c_0` is `PI/(1 - PI*sumover_k_1toN {rho_k sigma_k^3} )`

Here `sigma_i`, `z_i`, `rho_i` and `N` will be input parameters, so `c_0` is also known. And I want to calculate `gam` and the terms `(z_i + N_i*sigma_i)` or `N_i` for each `i` from 1 to `N`.

When I know `N` (2, 3 or 4), I can generate the polynomial and solve it. But I want to solve for any value of `N` using one procedure.

Any help is appreciated. What kind of problem is this? Where can I learn on how to solve these kinds of problem?
