I am trying to setup a basic SQLite db and insert a row into it. When I try to insert a row my application fails. I put a try catch block around the call and I am seeing it is a null pointer exception. It looks like my database is never getting created. I am calling the object that creates the database at the top of my code so I don't know why this is not getting created. Here is the fragment where I am trying to create and insert my db. The line where I create my database is: MapsDatabaseManager db. I then try to insert into it in a try catch block and I am seeing the null pointer there. I have also included my class MapsdatabaseManger where the actual database is created.

You have a pretty simple error: You forgot to initialize your MapsDatabaseManager so your db variable will be null. Try this code here:

public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);

    db = new MapsDatabaseManager(this);
