Can anyone tell me why nothing gets drawn in my window. All that happens is it draws whatever is behind the window when its created. And forgive me if the code is sloppy I cant find anything to help me learn direct2d 1.1 so its a bit of a mess

Try to provide an example where your problem exists with as few lines of code as possible. It's hard to debug such a big piece of code. –  Kevin Jun 8 '13 at 23:39
    
Completely agree with Kevin. Instead of doing it through the WM_PAINT message, why don't you avoid that and create a message handling system for your Rendering code. A message system that allows you to draw to your back-buffer and present it without waiting for windows to send WM_PAINT messages. Also it will be faster to debug, and maybe even easier. –  Miguel Sep 26 '13 at 15:26
