I want to implement connection pooling on my jdbc connection using jndi but i also want to use an extended BasicDataSource object. I have restriction on using tomcat 5.5. The requirement is to encrypt-decrypt password provided in jndi context resource attributes.

Here is my servlet which works perfectly without extending BasicDataSource.

        } catch (NamingException e) {
            e.printStackTrace();
        }
    }

Here is my extended BasicDataSource class

Here is my context.xml file

Here is my WEB-INF resource declaration

My servlet runs fine and i can initialize jdbc pool using above code. But when i try to use my extended class for encrypting -decrypting password then i get exception as below.

Please suggest the proper way of extending this class for use with jndi

Ok, Here is the alternative i am doing right now. I have removed JNDI resource and creating a new BasicDataSource Object directly in my servlet instead of getting it generated from the JNDI factory method call. In order to customize may be i can parameterize the properties using properties file ?

        ds = new BasicDataSource();
        ds.setDriverClassName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
        ds.setUsername("root");
        ds.setPassword("abcde");
        ds.setUrl("jdbc:mysql://192.168.2.2:3306/world");
        ds.setMaxActive(8);
        ds.setMaxIdle(8);
        ds.setMaxWait(10000);
        ds.setTimeBetweenEvictionRunsMillis(300000);
        ds.setMinEvictableIdleTimeMillis(1800000);
        ds.setRemoveAbandonedTimeout(300);
        ds.setRemoveAbandoned(true);
