I wrote this basic file to test Three.js lib, but something goes wrong when I try to append renderer (an element) to the $container (which is set to $('#container')).

I find there is something wrong at $container.append(renderer.domElement). Why can't container.append(renderer.domElement) display the sphere but document.body.appendChild(renderer.domElement) is ok?

The console outputs THREE.WebGLRenderer 58, what does it mean?

I think using jQuery to create and locate a div element is more effort than necessary. Instead, try:

container = document.createElement( 'div' );
document.body.appendChild( container );
container.appendChild( renderer.domElement );
