I have developed an application on android and what it does is collect the gps coordinates of a place using the google maps APIs the user will then have to enter information of the place to the cordinates and submit to a mysql database through php. my issue is, am able to do everything except submit the data to the php to process for a result. am new to android development and any help will be greatly appreciated and a good explanation for me to go solo next time will be just as awesome. Thank you

PS: Everything is in one file cos I was developing using AIDE on my Samsung Galaxy tab and the basic version will not allow external files.

Im no expert in Java or Android so bear with me...

 static final String MOTHERSHIP = "[MyServerAddress/server.php";

Not sure if this is just a typo or what...but you have [ in front of this, and shouldn't this be an absolute http:// path, to submit to the HttPClient?

Also you have to add permission in your manifest file...

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" />

Also...in your connect() method...

Youre setting

String result = null;

Then calling it at the bottom...

 alert(result);
return result;

But nowhere in the code do I see you using it, so won't it always be null??

KyleK, yes its a typos. its a complete web address but I did not want to share it that is why I did that I was meant to do "[MyServerAddress]... to indicate the address is included. But I have not included the permissions or not that I know of. I will check and get back ASAP. Thank you –  mw509 Jun 24 '13 at 17:27

I already had the permissions in my XML. <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" /> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" /> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" /> –  mw509 Jun 30 '13 at 8:51
