I have implemented back button support in my app using sencha touch history and routing. But it works only if the app is run through browser. When I package the app as a native application then pressing back button just closes the app. How can I handle the device back button in native android packaged application? Apart from sencha touch routing and history support is there any additional implementation that I need to have so that back button works the same when run through browser as well as through the packaged android app?

You can handle hardware back button like this:

if (Ext.os.is('Android')) {
    document.addEventListener("backbutton", Ext.bind(onBackKeyDown, this), false);

    function onBackKeyDown(eve) {   
        eve.preventDefault();

        //do something
        alert('back button pressed');

    }
}

You can handle android back button by doing there step:

  1. Register back button event using phonegap\cordova

    document.addEventListener("backbutton", deviceBackButtonHandler, false);

  2. Check you are on 1st page or in side of your app, if first page then exit your app else navigate to previous page

    deviceBackButtonHandler(app,previousPage){
    if(previousPage!=null){
    Ext.Viewport.animateAtiveItem(previouspage, { type: 'slide', direction: 'left'} );
    }else{ app.exit();
    }
    }

for android packaged app you can do this,

You can handle this using: for API level 5

@Override
public void onBackPressed() {
    // your code.
}

and for older then API 5 use this:

@Override
public boolean onKeyDown(int keyCode, KeyEvent event) {
    if (keyCode == KeyEvent.KEYCODE_BACK) {
        // your code
    }

    return super.onKeyDown(keyCode, event);
}
