Plotting those data with qplot() gives me the following result :

I would like to split blue and red points from the same columns into 2 separate and right by each other columns to give something like this but with my jitter points :

And since we're at it do you know how to reduce the width of columns (reduce width space given to points from a given x) to make the columns narrower ? Also how to add space between columns or even an horizontal bar so we see clearly the different columns ?

Don't have time right at this moment to dig in, but these two questions might help: stackoverflow.com/questions/10493084/… and stackoverflow.com/questions/8510003/… - essentially, you need to simultaneously jitter and dodge your points, or figure out how to do group-specific offsets; the latter option might mean plotting them as two separate geoms, so I'd do some googling for "ggplot jitter and dodge" first. –  Matt Parker Jun 24 '13 at 16:26

Here's a solution. It was inspired by the general idea of this answer.

# create an interaction of both factors
int <- with(my.data, interaction(class, tag)) 
# create a numeric variable (tag2 is used instead of tag)
my.data <- transform(my.data, tag2 = as.numeric(int))
# calculate positions of x-axis breaks
breaks <- seq_along(levels(int))[c(TRUE, FALSE)] + .5

library(ggplot2)
ggplot(data = my.data, aes(x = tag2, y = values, color = as.factor(class))) +
  geom_jitter(position = position_jitter(width = .4)) +
  stat_summary(fun.y = 'mean', geom = 'errorbarh', 
               aes(xmin = tag2 - 0.4, xmax = tag2 + 0.4), height = 0) +
  scale_x_continuous(breaks = breaks, labels = levels(my.data$tag))

Ok good work that's what I wanted. Too bad we can't do this within ggplot2 or do a better clustering with blue and red columns. The informational process is very similar to faceting so I don't know why they didn't implement it. –  Wicelo Jun 25 '13 at 17:04
